Each Individuals Outlook on Life and How Its Formed :: essays research papers

Uninteresting Conundrum: Does or does it not bode well to demand that how every individual sees things relies totally upon that people novel time, place, and emotional judgment? on their social foundation? I might want to call attention to that this paper is composed expecting there is a flat out reality...and there is really a table staying there, and it isn't only an invention of our creative mind, figuratively speaking. Acquittal the supposition, I must have some place to work from.                     Ã¢â‚¬Å"Did You Just See That?†      I trust it bodes well to demand how somebody sees something relies completely upon their perspective. An extraordinary present day logician, Bertrand Russell’s, thought of appearance and reality clarifies that impression of a table and its appropriation of hues, shape, and sense, fluctuate with each perspective. Remarking on the appropriation of shading, Russell expresses that, "It follows that if a few people are taking a gander at the table at a similar second, no two of them will see the very same circulation of hues, on the grounds that no two can see it from the very same perspective, and any adjustment in the perspective rolls out some improvement in the manner the light is reflected." What one individual considers the to be as green, one may see as red at another perspective. Furthermore, what may appear to have shading is really boring in obscurity. What one may see as being square shape, may glance oval in another view. What may detect the table to be hard by a dash of the fingertips might be delicate by the pinch of the cheek. Deciding hardness of the table relies upon pressure applied and judge of the sensation. No presumptions can be completely evident on the grounds that there is no deciding component in picking the correct edge to take a gander at or sense the table. There are no deciding elements where edge or estimation is smarter to decide than the other in feeling of shading, shape, and feel of an item. In this way, contingent upon an individual’s perspective, or perspective, will adjust their feeling of impression of any item, thing, or mass. It is a similar thought with a photo. Contingent upon the lighting, time of day, and position the image was taken from, a table can be made to resemble any number of things. On the off chance that it is night, the table may resemble a darker knot against a dim background.

African Christians, often independent of missionaries, made their religion an important part of their identity. The beginning of the twentieth cen tury, over 30 missionary societies worked in South Africa. Majority of the people were working to promote Christianity throughout Africa. Missionary influence was profound, resistant to easy categorization, and continually negotiated and shaped by African Christians. Comparing The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce Et...

Comparing The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen World War I, probably the most horrible of modern wars, inspired some of the most beautiful and powerful poetry of the 20th century. Two very good examples are The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, both were written before and during the this war. Rupert Brooke was a well- educated English man who lived the enthusiasm of the whole country when the war started. The structure and the language both poems have very little similarities and many differences. One similarity is the consistency of their rhyme scheme. Both poems have a regular rhyme scheme, this is becauseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ The language Owens use in the poem is very informal and colloquial. For example when he wrote Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots / of disappointment shells that drop behind. The poem doesnt have a formal stanza laid out, the first stanza has eight verse and the third only two verses. By not using ceremonial words and not having formal stanza laid out, Owen try to point us again that the war is not elegant or has formal structure. Brooke poem is quite different, he is language and the structure of the poem is very formal. This suggests that his way of thinking of war is very formal and by some means without suffering. Organizational Behavior and Change Process-Samples for Students

Question: Prepare an essay from attached articles identify difficulty, what the writers are saying, create a view if they agree or disagree, identify basic ideas and state your view. Answer: Organizational behaviour is the process of human behaviour within an organization and discusses about the pattern of behaviour of the employees within that organization. This study of behaviour is done in different levels such as individual level, group level and organizational level and is useful to apply interventions so that the process within an organization and the employee interaction can be improved (Abernathy and Lattal 2014). For every organization, it is important to focus on its organizational behaviour so that employees performance can be influenced. Further, assessment of employees behaviour provides the managers and leaders with a clear idea regarding managing the organization through the implementation of ideas and effective utilization of human resources (Morgeson et al. 2013). The prime purpose of this assignment to discuss several articles regarding organizational behaviour and discuss the difficulty in managing any organization through such interventions. Further, this assignment will conduct a comparative study to discuss the agreement and disagreement of authors of those articles regarding components of organizational behaviour and their implementation. The first article discusses about the prevalent and stagnant as well as dominant nature of the organization that makes the organization complex to manage and difficult to understand (Ghorashi and Sabelis 2013). This situation leads the managers become confused and leads to managerial failure. In such situation they take the help of constricted models to understand the organizational behavior however, through this they are not being able to understand the entire organizations behavior. Further, this articles discussed about the four structural framework which are rooted in social structure as well as managerial knowledge (Westwood and Johnston 2013). Where the structural framework discusses about the architecture of the organization, rules, regulations and policies on the other hand the social construct discusses about the human resource, their strengths and weaknesses and their desires emotions and fears while working in the organization. Further, according to Abernathy and Lattal(20 14), if any process that has been implemented in the organization according to its policy, then it is the duty of the manager to implement several strategies to manage the process. For this purpose, he can also hire consultants so that proper solution to each difficult situation can be achieved (De Vries 2013). Thus author here is of the opinion that the main cause of managerial failure is faulty decision making. So I believe that it is the duty of the managers of the organisation to explore the in depth understanding of the employees and their capacity. This will help to meet the organisational demand while keep the employees satisfied (Seaward 2013). Secondly, managing change and stress was discussed in the chapter with discussion about the internal and external sources that lead to the requirement of change in the process. Further, different change model theories such as Lewins change model theory and Kotters eight step model was discussed along with the dynamic model of resistance to change. There are five key elements that enforces change both internally and externally to an organization. According to Yukl (2012), these forces are market and customer related changes, social and political pressure, the demographical characteristics, organizational crises and technological advancement whereas the internal forces for change are managerial behaviours and employee related problems. In this section as well, the author focused on the holistic approach for change and discussed that to reduce the domination and stress of change management the organization should provide the employees with intervention so that they can reduce their stre ss and help to lead the change process (Cooper and Marshall 2013). The author here is of the opinion in order to avoid frustration and failures; it must be the intuitive capacity of the managers to implement the change management with grace and skills. As per my view, the author was able to connect the change management, behaviour pattern. I think it is the duty of the managers to update themselves with the perspectives of the change management so that they and successfully implement the same. The third article mainly discuss about the external and internal forces that generates the need for organisational change under the light of the Lewin change model and Kotters eight step organisational change. It also discusses about the stress moderates and type A behaviour. While describing the reason for stagnant and dominance and emergence of stress, researchers discussed about the Type A behaviour syndrome and according to that If any person undergoes very strict and chronic and tough struggle, then an action and emotion added behaviour can be observed in that individual. Which is known as the Type A behaviour pattern. This behaviour pattern is the result of obsession of hard work and not related to any psychotic symptoms (Shin, Taylor and Seo 2012). This section of people is open to criticism, harassment, hard mental as well as physical work, positive as well as negative feedback. However, due to such kind of people in any organization, stress and pressure condition increases. For example, if the manager or leader of the organization is a Type A person, then the employees are unable to cope up with the work speed and pressure, leading to change in the behavioural pattern of the organization. Hence, stress reduction techniques should be applied (Gssling et al. 2012). These techniques involves muscle relaxation techniques, meditation between working hours, cognitive restructuring, application of holistic wellness approach, and biofeedback process so that harsh change management process cannot harm the health of the employees. I think more employee interaction and employee oriented fun activities will help in reducing employee stress and thereby helping to optimally implement change management. Fourthly, the author discussed about the mental models that reflect an individuals perspective and reflection about all the surrounding environments and through this model, the author connected the organizational behaviour pattern and change management process. However, these mental models are perception and therefore can be changed (Prochaska 2013). Hence, it is the prime duty of the organization, its leaders or managers to reshape the employees thinking in a way, which is positive for the organization. The author discussed two benefits of the deconstruction of flaws within the mental model. The first one is related to the training and social awareness program and through this the employees will be able to point out the internal industrial needs of the organization (Nielsenand Randall 2013). Secondly, this process can become a diagnostic tool that they employees can identify the potential hazards present in the organization and different unexpected contingencies. Therefore, through these two approaches, the organizational leaders will be able to identify the disasters and eliminate them to create learning and improving condition in the organization. Finally the discussion about complexity of the organization and the difficulty related to management occurred. Employees and their pre-conceived knowledge about process and different theoretical models decide the organizational behaviour pattern (Pieterse, Canilsand Homan 2012). If the thinking of employee and managers working in the organization is narrow, then working in such environment will become depressing and frustrating whereas, broader mindset and approach for work will create a healthy environment and working in such environment will be easier for employees as in change management (Prochaska 2013). Author here mainly focused on the better understanding of poor learning process but does not provides the detailed overview of the internal complications faced by the employees during the learning process. Henc e, according to my view, each organization should broaden its perspective so that achieving change management related targets become easier and through the stress reduction techniques, stringencies and dominance of the organization can be reduced. Further managers and leaders should take four perspectives so that managing the mental model of employees and their preconceptions can be managed (Gssling et al. 2012). In the conclusion, it can be mentioned that organizational behaviour is an important aspect for any organization as assessment of this helps the organization to identify issues that affect the organization to achieve success. However, there are situations that makes the organization stringent and dominant leading to increased harassment and stress among the employees. Therefore application of stress reduction technique should be done to reduce the stress of the organization. Further, the change management process and its consequences were discussed in the assignment. References Abernathy, W.B. and Lattal, D., 2014. Social communication has become pervasive and is rapidly becoming the preferred interaction channel for consumers as well as companies. As the objectives for Enterprise Social Networks within organizations become ever wider, links back to business strategy and real measures become more important. There are some measures to measure the success of a social business approach- Social networking and the enterprise: Social networking has altered the way enterprises engage with their customers, changing their approach to areas such as customer service and brand management. Leading organizations have been taking the concepts of social networking and using them to transform the way they engage with their employees and partners, in areas as diverse as Sales, RD, Communications and Marketing. Making the business relevance clear: Developing a benefits case for Enterprise Social Networks involves getting a good understanding of how their capability can be applied to a business; your organization’s strategy, objectives and challenges; and any findings from existing networks in place within your organization engagement of the people within your organization All of the above benefits depend on engagement of the people within your organization. Much as Amazon can’t generate revenue if people cannot work out how to buy a book on their website, if the experience of an Enterprise Social Network is not both relevant and engaging it will be impossible to create business value, as nobody will be there to do it. Raise Awareness of Your Brand: It’s important to stay relevant. If customers aren’t aware of your brand and what it stands for, your business may be spinning its wheels. When customers are aware of your brand and interact with it on different social media sites, they are more likely to recommend it to their friends by liking posts on Facebook and retweeting you on Twitter. The Possible Problems of Balkan Accession to the European Un essays

The Possible Problems of Balkan Accession to the European Un essays Though this paper is meant to address a current event pertaining to the European Union, it is difficult to explain some things without delving into the past. This paper deals not with a single concrete event, but rather a process that could have deep implications for the European Union. This process involves one of the most ethnically diverse, and unfortunately, most volatile regions of the globe: the Balkans. This paper will briefly address the past histories of the Balkans and the European Union. It will also attempt to explain the possibilities for internal conflict once the Balkan states, particularly the Yugoslav successor states, attain EU membership. Finally, it will evaluate the pros and cons of EU expansion into the Balkans, as well as ways to evade the potential problems of expansion into such an unstable region. The modern European Union was created in 1952 in an attempt to deter war through economic interdependence. Over the next few decades, the original 6 states gradually expanded into a 15-member bloc. Expansion was expressly encouraged in the various treaties governing the administration and functioning of the Union. The collapse of Soviet-style communism in Eastern Europe from 1989-1991 created a vast new pool of potential applicants determined to enter the European mainstream in order to escape their dark Soviet past. Indeed, for many of these states acceptance in the West was considered more urgent and more important than cooperation in the East, (Brown 266). The prevailing Western orientation of many of these states made acceptance easier than previously thought. Ironically, the state most accepted in the West prior to the collapse of communism, Yugoslavia, became a pariah even before the Iron Curtain lifted. As other East European states applied to join the European Union , Yugoslavia descended into ethnic chaos reminiscent of the late 19th Century. Had Yugoslavia remained whole and ...

Dissertation has to be on something from the 1900 onwards

Has to be on something from the 1900 onwards - Dissertation Example National Interest, 49, 3 – 9. 21 Abstract The Vietnam War is the singularly most important occurrence in the Cold War era, which was direct military fallout owing to the rising antagonism between the two superpowers, USA and USSR. This was keeping in line with the US anti-communist foreign policies observed during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Berlin Wall episode, and was a part of the various measures undertaken by US at that time to contain communism. However, unlike the Berlin wall and Cuban crises, Vietnam War reflects the ignominious defeat of US, and the price it had to pay in terms of psychological and actual monetary costs, still haunt the American socio-political milieu. The war was the longest in recent history, and stretched from 1955 to 1975, though, US came to be involved in this direct combat not until the early 1960s, and the consequences of this battle registered significantly in the minds of the American general public only during the last few years of the war. This article will analyze the Vietnam War and the far-reaching consequences that this war had in terms of subsequent US domestic and foreign policies. ... This war took place after the  First Indochina War,  and was fought between the communist USSR and its allies that had a stronghold in  North Vietnam; and South Vietnam supported by the anti-communist forces, led by U.S. (Spector,  1993). Vietnam at this time lay divided along the lines of a Communist-ruled North, and the US allied South; after Ho Chi Minh put an end to the French colonial rule in 1954, under the 1954 Green Peace Accords. Drawn just after the Korean War, this Geneva agreement was a temporary settlement accorded to bring peace, mainly on the part of the communist forces. Owing to international pressure put on USSR and the People's Republic of China, its allies in Vietnam agreed to temporarily divide the nation on the seventeenth parallel. Moscow and Peking at that time was not particularly willing to face another confrontation with the anti-communist forces, so soon after the Korean debacle. After the division, the south elected Ngo Dinh Diem, a pro US politic al leader, as their President; leading to direct confrontation between the communist supporters and the anti-communist state authority. With the communist forces trying to unite the country, and the north President’s forces bent on detracting the communist supporters, the tension between the two factions was omnipresent, and it inevitably broke out into, first, an indirect and undercover combat; and later after US intervention, into a full-scale war. The Vietnam People’s Army that engaged in direct combat and relied primarily on territorial warfare, represented North Vietnam; while a communist controlled South Vietnamese faction known as Viet Cong that operated right from the enemy’s territory, helped it to a great extent. The South Vietnamese forces and the anti communist allies

Aspergers Syndrome Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Aspergers Syndrome - Research Paper Example In addition, many people depict Aspergers disorder as one of the autism spectrum disorders. This disorder regularly occurs in children above three years and is more prevalent in boys compared to girls. Persons suffering from Aspergers syndrome display severe impairments in their social and communication skills, for instance poor nonverbal communication. On the other hand, the majority of the individuals having this disorder has perfect cognitive and oral skills, and naturally has ordinary to greater aptitude (Stoppler, 2011). Although health experts link Aspergers disorder with autism, individuals suffering from this disorder not have severe language and cognitive problems present in other autism spectrum disorders. Despite its occurrence, it is however possible for people with this disorder to lead normal lives with appropriate education and treatment (Boyer, 2011). Many people hold several misconceptions concerning Aspergers disorder. For instance, those not familiar with the disorder might deem that the infected individual lacks intelligence or that they are self-centered and uncaring people. This is because people suffering from this disorder are often not able to react or respond to voice around them or body language. An individual suffering from Aspergers syndrome might ignore Dropping hints. This is because he or she might not respond to the subtleties of the English language and might not interpret language that needs reading between the lines (Richford, 2011). Boyer (2011) adds that most people suffering from this disorder live autonomous lives. Although it is possible to treat and manage Aspergers syndrome, it is paramount to help patients learn to adjust to new circumstances. Dr. Hans Asperger, the doctor who gave the disorder its name first explained Aspergers syndrome in1944. In 1981 researcher, Lorna Wing made the

Gun Control Argumentative Essay Example for Free

Gun Control Argumentative Essay I stumbled over an argumentative article that at first, I did not understand completely. After doing a little research over the topic the author was discussing I quickly connected to his concern for her current children, as well as other children nationwide. What I learnt during my research is about the â€Å"Common Core Standards† that hundreds of thousands of schools follow and teach each year. She set her tone early in the paper so the reader could get an emotional stance on her position. Most common to side with the â€Å"non-common core standard† group is the mothers and fathers of children that are enrolled in many different schools. Whether it’s public or private, and religious or non-religious; each following one of the two choices they have. They can teach the Common Core Standards, or have a choice of what they believe each child will be able to keep up with. Each and every child is different, none are exactly the same. In saying that there is no possible way that the common core is an effective and well established standard for schools to follow. What one child can grasp easily and quickly may take another child longer and need another method of learning and studying in order to be as well knowledgeable as the first student. Others believe that the Common Core Standards are needed for schools to teach ids what they will need to be successful in their future. They see each child as someone that can study and try harder if they are not caught up with the other children, for they are all alike in their learning ways and don’t need special care when learning complicated material. As I see it, when they see a child that struggles in school should try harder or else they will fail, and that’s the end of it. No help to the struggling student or help towards the student that they should want to succeed and thrive in their future. She starts her opinion with a real-life experience that many can relate to. Whether its parents or grandparents they have tried their hardest to give their children what they thought was best. She tells us about how she has sent her 2 daughters through many schools, that have failed to provide her  daughters with the education she believed was right. They (the school) believed that every student was able to learn and act upon that learning in the same ways. She searched and searched through religious schools, private schools, and public schools; until she found one that believed in the power of the student. They moved from the east coast to Colorado where her daughters were enrolled in a school that allowed the girls to escape the corrupted, dumbed-down curriculum of an overpriced private girls school. She uses some examples of mothers that have started home-schooling their children for the sole purpose to get away from the Common core standard, they believe that they will be able to teach their children better than any teacher or school can because they can teach at the pace of the child. Therefore, the children learn in a way that is better for them and will expand the knowledge that they gain throughout their school years. She uses quotes from a mother that is also in her shoes to prove to people that this is a concern that has spread throughout our nation and is making parent take action to change the problem our children face every day Michelle states that â€Å"We were blessed to find a community of parents and public school educators in Colorado Springs who embrace high standards, academic excellence and strong character education for students of every race, creed and class,† she uses words and examples that are easy to understand and comprehend to even the simplest o f minds. All in all Michelle used real-life situations that weren’t only easy to relate to, but also to show her point of view easily and clearly. Imagine what the world would be like if everyone were to respond to the message Michelle is sending to us. Teachers would base their lesson plans on each individual student, pushing for that student to thrive in their studies and achieve what they know they can do. To plan studies that would work best with the students learning abilities. The school would look at the student as an individual, not as the whole student body as the same person. They would stray from thinking that no one is different from another on their learning abilities. Race, ethnicity and social status would not play a part in the education or outcome of each student’s achievements within the school. If no one pays attention to the message Michelle is sending to schools, teachers, and parents around our country; nothing will change. The education of our children, grandchildren, and great great grandchildren will struggle to  learn the material our government thinks they need to know, and learn how they think every student can learn. Our government controls many aspects of our live and environment, why let they control the way we learn and what we learn. They don’t know each individual personally, they have no knowledge on our learning abilities and the struggles we will face with learning certain material throughout our school years. Our educational departments in our nation will only decrease throughout the year if nothing is changed about our educational aspects in children’s lives. Michele did an excellent job on drawing the reader in with a personal story, kudos on the ethos. She wanted people to feel the pain her and her daughters felt throughout their years in school. Struggling with the materials because their teachers neglected to teach in a way that would be more suitable to their learning abilities, which would lead to higher test scores and higher colleges. Her tone, I believe, was perfectly out into this paper. Not to forward to the reader but was easily established in the paper so the reader could identify which side you were defending and the points you would be making throughout the paper. I think that her personal experiences, knowledge, and research are what made her opinion convincing. Knowing that she knew what she was talking about and could answer questions on this topic if need be was very reassuring that she knew her topic well enough to write an opinionated paper in a way to sway even the toughest cookie to her side.

Weltys Characterization in A Curtain of Green Essay -- A Curtain of Gr

Welty's Characterization in A Curtain of Green      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Myth, symbol, and allusion are not an uncommon characteristic in Eudora Welty's works. By using characters such as Odysseus and leaving hints of symbolism in works such as The Optimist's Daughter Welty places many questions in the minds of her readers. After a reader has pondered these questions a categorization of the story takes place in the readers mind. Although different readers have different interpretations of literature one collection of Welty's short stories can be classified into two categories. Katherine Anne Porter's introduction to Eudora Welty's A Curtain of Green explains the two categories:    as painters of the grotesque make only detailed reports of actual living types observed more keenly than the average eye is capable of observing, so Miss Welty's little human monsters are not really caricatures at all, but individuals exactly and clearly presented: which is perhaps a case against realism, if we cared to go into it. She does better on another level-for the important reason that the themes are richer-in such beautiful storiesLet me admit a deeply personal preference for this particular kind of story, where external act and the internal voiceless life of the human imagination almost meet and mingle on the mysterious threshold between dream and waking, on reality refusing to admit or confirm the existence of the other, yet both conspiring toward the same end. (xxi)    According to Porter the two categories found in A Curtain of Green are that of grotesque or monstrous and that of beauty or standing on the gateway between consciousness and unconsciousness. Power In The First Part Of A Clockwork Orange Essay

The opening of the novel is the line â€Å"What’s it going to be then, ey? † This is clearly something that is said by someone in an authoritative position and we learn in the next sentence that this is Alex. He is our narrator and this gives him a certain amount of power as he can choose what he wants to tell us as readers. Burgess also shows Alex’s power through the various violent attacks he perpetrates on people who we would consider to be in a position of more authority than Alex is in our own society. The first of these instances is the attack upon a schoolteacher, which is a clear and obvious indicator that this society is very wrong. At the tender age of fifteen, it would be considered totally inconceivable that Alex would not only attack, but also humiliate a man who relies upon respect from youths in order to do his job. The physical power the gang have over the teacher is almost a way of compensating for Alex and his gang feeling threatened intellectually and in this sense the teacher is the more powerful. This idea of physical versus intellectual power is explored again when the gang leave the town centre to seek victims in the suburbs. When they find the writer and his wife, they destroy the book and beat the couple into teary subordination. These actions are lead by Alex who is portrayed as an almost psychotic intellectual and so dislikes the idea of not understanding the â€Å"fair gloopy title† of the book. I believe he is also prone to paranoia because he gets angry at the merest suggestion of someone being more intelligent or cultured than himself. As a totally egocentric way of asserting his power, Alex also beats up a drunk who is stumbling around and singing because he found him â€Å"disgusting†. This does not show any correlation to the other attacks as there is obviously no intellectual challenge from this man and so this attack is purely a confidence boost and has no real reason at all. Aside from their physical power, Alex and his gang also command a certain amount of fear amongst the elderly folk at the pub they visit. They are able, through brash bribery and intimidation, to get a room full of adults to comply with their wishes fairly easily even though no violence is used, or even suggested. This shows that the gangs of youths roaming the streets are infamous and that the civilised society they prey upon is doing little, if anything, to stop them. The power presented to us here, or lack of it, is the state’s diminished power over criminals of a violent and numerous nature. This is further demonstrated when Alex and his gang come across a rival gang in a desolate place where their laws are obeyed e. g. survival of the fittest. The power each gang has over the other is decided in a very fitting way considering what is done with this power because the gang who can cause the most injury and pain wins the power to carry on doing so to other people outside the gang wars. One such unfortunate victim is the old woman who is the last of Alex’s victims as a free man. The gang, and Alex, assume they have unrivalled power over the old woman not only because of her age but also because they see themselves as untouchably strong in fights and aggression. However, Alex’s power seems to be with his gang because, contrary to his own beliefs, he finds he cannot do the robbery alone and is shocked to find the old woman beating him with a stick. This is a very strange thing to happen to Alex as he sees himself as above the possibility of actually getting hurt. However, it is clear that this invulnerable character is only as such when he is supported by his gang, who are given very little credit throughout the first half of the novel for their various roles within the crimes. The utterly surreal struggle for power and control between the old woman and the young but hardened criminal ends with a swift blow to the head from Alex and so we see his physical power keeping him in control yet again. However, the authorities finally get Alex under their control through (ironically) fairly violent methods. The police are portrayed as fighting fire with fire, so to speak, as they beat Alex and humiliate him just as he had done to so many before. This is cleverly done by Burgess as this lets the reader see how these people, who are fighting against Alex and the culture he represents, are actually no better than him in a moral sense as they get their power in exactly the same way e. g. through violent beatings and intimidation. Another example of role reversal is the relationship between P. R Deltoid and Alex both before and after his arrest. Prior to the arrest, Alex was very dismissive of P. R Deltoid’s warnings and cared little about what he had to say, as he was untouchable and would never be caught, as he was such an intelligent young man. However once he realises how much trouble he really is in, he becomes very meek and humble before P. R Deltoid and asks him for help. It is then that P. R Deltoid becomes the one who does not care and, in his position of power over Alex, spits in face. This is an act usually saved for use by the very lowest of people and is yet more evidence of the hypocritical use of humiliating actions on Alex by the people who are supposed to be putting an end to these actions. Throughout the first part of the novel, Alex uses barbaric force and pure physical strength to overpower his enemies and victims. He sees this as proof of his own undeniable strength when, in fact, it is down to his gang that he is not harmed by his numerous encounters with violence. His egotistical delusions lead him to believe that he can impose his power upon someone by himself and this over-confidence ultimately concretes his arrest. From this point, the readers of this novel would expect to see the police processing and punishing Alex harshly but effectively and humanely. Instead, we realise that the police are so used to seeing the violence that they no longer try to avoid it and instead resort to it themselves. We are shown that power has changed hands dramatically over the course of the first part of the novel but we can also recognise that the way in which the power is gained and exerted does not change in the slightest as it passes from criminals to civilians to policemen. This is a very interesting comment on the dystopian society presented to us in this book and serves as a powerful warning for our own future.

Hate The Criminal Justice System Through Juvenile Graffiti...

Reflection I first learned to hate the criminal justice system through juvenile graffiti around New Haven. I admired the rebellion of the rushed handwriting comparing cops to pigs on walls and flowing anarchist symbols. The fight against the police system was first rooted in teenage angst rather than real frustration. My friends and I would sing along to punk songs written by train hoppers about how corrupt capitalists and police were and I gleefully claimed to be a communist, without really knowing what any of this rebellion really meant. As I grew up I began to see injustice in a much more real and concerning light, far beyond the mindless slogans. I would listen in horror as my friends from New Haven told stories of being handcuffed and put on the ground for merely being parked in a Target parking lot after closing time. Meanwhile, my white classmates would tell stories of countless â€Å"just warnings† from the police. As I learned more from both the perspectives of my fri ends and the media these inequities seemed to become grossly unjust. However I had always seen this through a second hand lense, my friends, the media, everything seemed so far away from my home. My privilege kept me safe from every encountering the real consequences of the oppressive state. Although I empathized heavily with these issues, I had the option to disengage from activism at anytime. Throughout this class I have met people who do not have the option to take a break from violence or fighting suchShow MoreRelated School Shootings in America Essays5717 Words   |  23 PagesConnecticut, Georgia, Colorado, Virginia, Oregon, Michigan, and Tennessee are the sites in which some of the most viscous school crimes have occurred.
